The COVID-19 pandemic has been incredibly difficult for families. The Bank of Hawaii finds that 63% of residents living with at least one child under age 18 have seen their combined household income decline.

At the same time, kids in Hawaii have experienced learning loss due to disrupted education in the past two years. At the end of last year, just 32% of public school students were proficient in math, and 50% in reading. While there have been a number of programs at schools trying to address learning loss, the reality remains that some students are still not able to access the supports they need to regain and advance learning they lost during the pandemic.

That’s why we need the Hawaii State Legislature to take action today to pass legislation that would help parents afford needed school supplies, learning materials, and tutoring that they can’t get from their schools.

Please take a second and contact your Representative or Senator to express your support for them to do more to reach the needs of parents and students and pass SB2816. A personalized message from you would make a big difference.
