HawaiiKidsCAN is leading a student advocacy group which will develop and fine-tune students’ advocacy skills in order to effectively drive educational equity and change. Over the course of several months, students will identify a need in their educational experience, workshop ways in which to change it and advocate to bring about that change.
Students are savvy consumers of education. They can identify needs and areas in the system that need improvement. This program is designed to help them to use highly developed skills to systematically address those identified areas. The students will gain access to a variety of experts in the advocacy field, hear from elected officials, hone in on research and discussion skills, read articles, journal and organize their chosen campaign to address their unique educational needs.
